2026 CE – Reprogramming Enters The Human BodyOn 28 January 2026 the FDA cleared Life Biosciences to run the first human trial of partial epigenetic reprogramming. The target is the optic nerve: open-angle glaucoma, and the condition that follows a stroke of the optic nerve. Sight is the proving ground because the eye is reachable, observable, and its damage is usually considered permanent. What matters is not the indication. It is that a regulator has accepted, for the first time, that resetting the epigenetic age of living human tissue is a thing you are allowed to try. Ageing stops being a boundary condition and becomes a variable.Note the shape of this, because it recurs everywhere on this timeline. The knowledge was not new — Yamanaka published the four factors in 2006, and partial reprogramming in mice has been repeated for a decade. What changed was permission. Twenty years between knowing and being allowed, which is the actual bottleneck, and it is institutional rather than scientific.
